How to watch the 2024 College Football National Championship Game today: Michigan vs. Washington. It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of the college football season, but today is the day. This year, the Wolverines are coming into the National Championship Game as the top-rated team in the country. Michigan was able to stop Alabama in the final seconds of their Rose Bowl contest to advance to the National Championship Game. Now it's time to see if Jim Harbaugh can silence his critics and take his team to the top.

Meanwhile, Washington is trying to play spoiler. The team came out of nowhere this season to be one of the preeminent programs in the country. And with the Pac-12 ceasing to exist after Monday’s game, it would be poetic to see a team from that division take home a national championship at the end of its run.

Still, it won’t be easy for Washington as it tries to battle an outstanding Michigan team that can beat you both on offense and defense. Michigan has continued to be a strong team that can find ways to beat other programs and capitalize on mistakes. We can expect the very same during the national championship game.

Washington has similarly found ways to win this year. The team hasn’t always been perfect, but when it can play cohesively and get its offense and defense firing, there’s no stopping it — even if it’s facing a high-powered Michigan offense.

This year’s CFP National Championship Game could prove to be an all-time classic, with two teams that are well-matched and have the firepower to go toe-to-toe on the biggest stage. DraftKings has Michigan as 4.5-point favorites for this neutral-field showdown in Houston, but they expect it to be a relatively high-scoring affair. With an over/under set at 56.5 points, expect both teams to score a few touchdowns tonight.

The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines and No. 2 Washington Huskies will meet in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship game today. After two incredible New Year's Day games, it all comes down to a top-tier matchup between two undefeated college football programs.

Going into this game, Washington won the Sugar Bowl against the Texas Longhorns with a final score of 37-31, while Michigan won the Rose Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime with a score of 27-20 on New Year’s Day. In addition, both teams are undefeated with records of 14-0 each. So whichever team wins will give the other team their first loss of the season.

After four months of college football, it all comes down to one final game. The Washington Huskies (14-0) battle the Michigan Wolverines (14-0) in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship. The game will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Both Washington and Michigan pulled off dramatic victories in the semifinals. The Huskies stopped the Texas Longhorns on the final play to win the 2024 Sugar Bowl. The Wolverines needed a goal-line stand to prevail over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2024 Rose Bowl. Both universities are searching for their first College Football Playoff National Championship.

Led by Heisman Trophy finalist Michael Penix Jr., Washington brings one of the most explosive offenses in the country to the field. The Huskies are a top-10 team in terms of both yards and points per game this season, and they rank first overall in passing yards per game.

Michigan owns the most dominant defense in the nation. The Wolverines are at or near the top of every major statistical defensive category, including yards and points per game allowed.

The Wolverines earned their first CFP victory in program history with a 27-20 comeback win over No. 4 Alabama in overtime at the Rose Bowl. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy engineered a game-tying touchdown drive in the final minutes of regulation, running back Blake Corum found the endzone in overtime and a suffocating Michigan defense secured the game-sealing fourth down stop.

The Huskies showcased their high-octane, air-raid offense in a 37-31 victory over No. 3 Texas at the Sugar Bowl. Star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for a whopping 430 yards while Washington’s defense shut down the Longhorns’ last stand to punch the Huskies’ ticket to Houston.

Both teams have silenced critics on their road to the doorstep of history. Michigan proved its might in spite of a sign-stealing scandal that threatened to derail its season; in the semifinals, the Wolverines exorcised their playoff demons. Washington relied on its grit and fortitude to win an avalanche of close games, and then handled Oregon and Texas despite being written off as an underdog ad nauseum.

Michigan is eyeing its 12th national championship in program history. The Wolverines last won it all in the 1997-98 season, when they defeated Washington State in the Rose Bowl. Washington, meanwhile is hoping for its third national championship. The Huskies last won it all in 1991, when it ousted Michigan at the Rose Bowl.

The Wolverines (14-0, 9-0 in Big Ten play) and Huskies (14-0, 9-0 Pac-12) represent unequivocally the best teams in college football, not only for their top-two rankings, but also for the fact they are the only remaining undefeated teams in the FBS.

Despite their historic conference affiliations in the Big Ten and Pac-12, respectively, Michigan and Washington's CFP championship game will not take place at the historic Rose Bowl, where the Wolverines downed No. 4 Alabama 27-20 in overtime to advance to the CFP title game. Instead, the teams' meeting will take place at Houston's NRG Stadium.

Jim Harbaugh and Co. will seek to employ the same defensive strategy that stymied the Crimson Tide to a season-low 288 yards on offense. Whether the unit will have the same success against Washington's Joe Moore Award-winning line and Heisman Trophy runner-up Michael Penix Jr. remains to be seen. On offense, look for the Wolverines' J.J. McCarthy to continue making plays in key areas while Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards continues to pave the way for the Wolverines' running game.

Either way, one of Michigan or Washington will look for a historic victory on Monday: A win for the Wolverines would mark the program's first championship since 1997, and first undisputed title since 1948. Likewise, a win for Washington would represent the program's first title since a split championship in 1991. The Huskies' only other claimed title was in 1960, when the 10-1 claimed the Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU) following a Rose Bowl win over Minnesota.

The main telecast of Michigan vs. Washington will air live on ESPN from NRG Stadium in Houston. It will feature the broadcast team of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit from the booth, with Holly Rowe (Michigan) and Molly McGrath (Washington) working as sideline reporters. Bill Lemonnier will serve as ESPN's rules analyst.

The biggest game of the college football season is finally here with the Michigan Wolverines set to take on the Washington Huskies in a clash of No. 1 vs. No. 2. Both schools haven't lost a game all season, either, but one will finish undefeated while the other will go home with just one loss coming at the end of the season.

Michigan enters this game on the heels of a gripping 27-20 overtime win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Wolverines running back Blake Corum led the charge with 118 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on 21 touches, but it was his 17-yard scramble in overtime that ended up delivering the win for Michigan. The Wolverines defense pummeled Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe as well with six sacks and held him to only 116 passing yards on the day. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy added three touchdowns passes himself.

Washington, meanwhile, beat Texas in a shootout during their battle in the Sugar Bowl. Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 430 yards and two touchdowns in the win, while receivers Rome Odunze and Ja'lynn Polk caught six passes for 125 yards and five passes for 122 yards, respectively.

These two schools have faced each other 13 times since 1953, with Michigan holding the slight 8-5 edge. The Wolverines won their last match with the Huskies, too, in a 31-10 beatdown in the second week of the 2021 season. Corum slashed Washington in that one with three rushing touchdowns on 171 rushing yards.
